I tried getting a work visa; they said I need a job offer, but I can't even apply until I get a visa. What gives?
The Canadian work visa policy is meant to ensure that Canadians have the first opportunity to apply for available jobs in Canada. When the employer demonstrates that there is a shortage of specialized workers in the position they are attempting to fill, it is only then that the employer may look outside of the country for help. Though it may be challenging for non-Canadian residents to find a job in Canada, it is not impossible. Speak with your proposed employer or a citizenship & immigration attorney about your work visa options.
I am not eligible for a holiday working visa (because I am too old or my country doesn’t offer one), can I get a sponsorship visa? The Canadian government’s work visa policy is designed to ensure that Canadian citizens get first priority when applying for work in their own country. One exception to this policy is where the Canadian workforce has a demonstrated shortage of specialized workers as Occupations Under Pressure. Visit www.hrsdc.gc.ca for more information on Foreign Work Visas and Occupations Under Pressure.
Does Red Mountain offer sponsored Foreign Work Visas? Currently the Snowsports School sponsors foreign ski and snowboard instructors. Please note that there is a limited number of visas for instructors.
Contact each department separately to see if they will sponsor you.
