Since 1898, the city of Rossland has been presenting the Winter Carnival, a fantastic festival of recreation and entertainment in a quaint alpine city. This three day event during the last weekend in January features activities during both the day- and nighttime. The event begins with a parade downtown, a fireworks show, and the skiers' Torchlight Parade down Red Mountain. For daytime activities, the Winter Carnival has creative races with bobsleds, snowmobiles, GTs, skis, snowshoes, mountain bikes, golf clubs, and running shoes. Visitors to the carnival may also participate in a wine tasting festival, curling, pie eating contests, ice hockey, kids' scavenger hunt, a teen dance, and more. Nighttime activities take place at the town Saloon, where Rossland's own Boomtown Garter Girls put on a show. The Saloon also hosts gambling with play money that may be spent at an auction.
